Ice Hockey: Giants beat Panthers 7-1 to stay top

Sekonda Superleague leaders Belfast Giants romped to a 7-1 victory over Nottingham Panthers thanks largely to a Colin Ward hat-trick in Nottingham this evening. Ward hit a straight eight-minute treble after Rod Stevens had cancelled out Calle Carlsson's 40-second opener for the Panthers.

Jason Ruff added a brace and Todd Kelman a seventh with 17 seconds left as Belfast condemned rejuvenated Panthers to their first defeat in five games. Clayton Norris (Nottingham) and Terran Sandwith (Belfast) were ejected after a third-period fight while Panthers coach Paul Adey received a game misconduct as his frustrations boiled over.
