Euro wins for Leinster, Connacht

Leinster and Connacht got their European campaigns off to flying starts last night with impressive victories over Toulouse and Narbonne respectively. In Pool Six of the Heinken European Cup, Leinster defeated Toulouse in Donnybrook by 40 points to 10, while Connacht overcame another French side, Narbonne by 18 points to 6 in the European Shield.

Leinster produced one of their most impressive performances in years, driven on by an inspired performance by fly-half Nathan Spooner, who kicked four penalties and three conversions. Brian O'Driscoll went over the line twice for Leinster, with Malcolm O'Kelly and Gordon D'arcy grabbing one try apiece.

There were no tries in Athlone but a superb kicking performance by Eric Elwood saw Connacht convert their overall superiority into a comfortable win. Elwood kicked 6 penalties from 6 attempts.
