Keohane wins penultimate round

Promising Irish racer Michael Keohane has won the penultimate round of the 2001 British F3 Championship at Silverstone today. Starting the wet encounter from fourth on the grid, he made a blistering start to the race to move to the head of the field on the opening lap.

Once in front, the Meritus Racing driver dominated the Scholarship field to win by a massive 12 seconds. Keohane's fifth F3 win, the Clonakilty star also recorded his sixth fastest lap of the year and will be aiming for a repeat performance when he starts the season finale from the front row of the grid later this afternoon.

In the battle for the Scholarship title, Robbie Kerr retains his 11-point lead over Matthew Gilmore after the pair failed to finish when they clashed at Priory Corner on lap 5. Michael has already tied up third in the Scholarship standings.
