McAteer named in Blackburn squad

Irish midfielder Jason McAteer has been named in the Blackburn squad to face Everton tomorrow.

McAteer has been largely out-of-favour at Ewood Park under Graeme Souness, and it is believed he has been named in the squad for the Everton game simply because Souness is short of first team players. Martin Taylor, Craig Short, Keith Gillespie and David Dunn are all injured, and McAteer will be hoping to benefit from their absence.

The Republic of Ireland winger was brought back in from the cold by Souness after he scored Ireland's goal in the vital 1-0 World Cup qualifier victory over Holland at Lansdowne Road. He had put in for a transfer away from Blackburn but his future looked somewhat clearer when he was recalled by Souness.

Squad: Friedel, Filan, Neill, Berg, Bjornebye, Flitcroft, Tugay, Jansen, Hignett, Mahon, Bent, Hughes, Johnson, Grabbi, McAteer, Duff.
