Connacht dominate to ensure quarter-final spot

Connacht romped into the quarter-finals of the Celtic League with a 62-0 demolition of hapless Caerphilly this afternoon. A stunning second-half hat-trick by speedy wing Wayne Munn was the highlight of a thoroughly professional performance. Munn ripped the Caerphilly defence to shreds as he sprinted to the line for each of his three touchdowns.

International Eric Elwood had his kicking boots on as he converted seven of the nine tries and landed a penalty. Caerphilly had their captain David Hawkins sin-binned in the second half for a high tackle - and that just added to their problems.

From the moment Connacht took the lead after five minutes through a try by flanker Johnny O'Connor who later scored a second it was pretty plain for all to see that the Irish team were going to win at a canter.

They dominated all phases of play and looked far sharper. Connacht led 17-0 at half-time through tries by O'Connor, Des Dillon and Uijs but in the second half it was a case of total domination.
