Yegorova suspended from championships
Thursday, 2 August 2001 20:46Russian runner Olga Yegorova has been suspended from the world athletics championships because of a positive test for the stamina-boosting drug erythropoietin (EPO), the world governing body of athletics announced today.
International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) spokesman Giorgio Reineri said the IAAF had still to complete a second analysis of the athlete's urine which showed traces of the drug at last month's Paris Golden League meeting. A second analysis is needed to confirm the positive test.
But Reineri told Reuters: "She is suspended from the championships."
The championships are due to open tomorrow.
