Luger latest injury doubt for Lions

Dan Luger has further complicated matters for Lions coach Graham Henry with the news that he has suffered a facial injury and is definitely out of Saturday's match with New South Wales. Just hours after England team-mate Mike Catt pulled out of the rest of the tour of Australia, Luger sustained the injury during an accidental training ground clash with Neil Black.

The extent of the problem will not be known until tomorrow at the earliest but it has definitely ruled him out of the weekend clash at Sydney Football Stadium. Jason Robinson is to replace Luger in the team while the vacancy that leaves on the replacements bench will be taken up by Ben Cohen. "Dan will receive a further assessment tomorrow, and an update will be given tomorrow evening," confirmed Lions manager Donal Lenihan.

Henry and his backroom staff are concerned that Luger may have picked up a fracture or a concussion. If that proves to be the case, Luger would be forced to take an automatic 21-day rest and this would certainly upset Henry's plans as Luger was expected to feature in his first Test team.
