Bohs unveil Mahon as new boss

Eircom League champions Bohemians have today unveiled Pete Mahon as the successor to former manager Roddy Collins who was sacked a fortnight ago. Mahon, the former assistant manager who took over the running of the club following Collins' departure, has signed a three-year contract with the Dalymount Park side. Liam O'Brien becomes assistant manager after signing a two-year contract. Mahon is a former manager of St Francis and was responsible for bringing that club from junior football to the National League during his time there.

Mahon said today that he is excited about taking on the job of Bohemians boss. "It's a huge challenge. I look upon it as one of the biggest jobs in the country and I'm just looking forward, with all the razzmatazz the last couple of days, to getting on with managing the club," he said.

Mahon also revealed that he was in constant touch with former Bohs boss Roddy Collins while deliberating on whether or not to take the position. "No body likes to see anybody lose their job and I'm not any different. It was just sad circumstances in which Roddy left the club," he said.

"I actually met Roddy on Friday night and told him I had received the phone call. I told him that I wouldn't speak to anybody until I had spoken to him first because he brought me to this club and I felt it was my duty to speak to him," he added. "I kept him fully informed, we had a long discussion and he told me that he didn't have a problem with me, if I was offered the job, taking it."
