Irish rugby supremo dies

Former IRFU president, Ireland and Lions selector and national team manager, Ken Reid has died at the age of 70 after a long illness.

Reid, awarded the OBE for his services to the game in January 2001, had a long and distinguished career administrating the game in Ireland. He was president of the IRFU between 1994 and 1995 having been national team manager between 1988 and 1992, Lions selector in 1993 and also chairman of the Northern Ireland Sports Council.

In a statement, the IRFU said that Ken was involved at all levels of the game and was respected throughout the sporting world. He was highly respected by his friends and colleagues in education, business, and charities he helped. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
