Tranmere suffer heavy defeat

Tranmere caretaker boss Kevin Sheedy had no complaints after the 4-1 home defeat at the hands of runaway leaders Fulham last night. The defeat leaves Rovers without a win in seven games and in relegation zone at the bottom of the table. A double strike from Louis Saha, Barry Hayles and Clark led to a strong defeat over Tranmere with Simon Osborn netting a last-minute consolation for the hosts.

"It was a harsh lesson, but hopefully not the killer blow," said Sheedy, whose side are five points away from safety. "We've got to pick ourselves up. We can't feel sorry for ourselves. We've got to work hard and go to Grimsby in the hope of getting a result. There are still eight games to go."

"Fulham are head and shoulders above everybody in the division. We were always playing catch-up. We battled and did our best, but they were the better team," Sheedy added in an interview with PA. "The supporters were tremendous and I'm only sorry they have gone home very disappointed." (PA)
