Carbone move off on deadline day
Thursday, 22 March 2001 17:27There was a storm of activity in the transfer market today, with several players finding new homes before this evening's 5.00pm deadline. Top of the list should have been Bradford City striker Benito Carbone, who was expected to join Terry Venables and Bryan Robson at Middlesborough on a free transfer. However, the deal failed to go through before the deadline, despite both sides agreeing personal terms. It is believed the Italian was looking for a three-year contract, while 'Boro were only prepared to offer a one-year deal. Elsewhere, former England international Stuart Ripley moved from Southampton to Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of the season, while Northern Irish international Steve Morrow, who made the switch from QPR to Peterborough.
Ireland Under 21 international Richie Partridge has moved to Bristol Rovers in a loan move until the end of the season. The Dubliner has struggled to force his way into Gerard Houllier's plans at Liverpool, but with a few months in Division Two it is hoped he will be in a stronger position next season to push for a first team place. His appearances this season have been confined to the Worthington Cup, where he has started one and came from the bench as the Anfield outfit marched to their first trophy under Houllier.
In other moves, Paul Dalglish, son of Kenny, completed a loan move from Norwich City to Wigan Athletic, veteran striker Steve Claridge went from Portsmouth to Millwall on loan, while Kilmarnock's Gary Holt made a £100,000 switch to Norwich.
