Parnevik shares the lead in Florida

Swede Jesper Parnevik shares the lead after the opening round of the PGA Honda Classic in Florida with Australians Geoff Ogilvy and Ben Ferguson. All three shot a 7-under par round of 65 to give them a one shot advantage over a group of six players including Bernhard Langer and Jim Gallagher Jnr.

Parnevik will be very pleased with his bogey-free round as he has not had the best starts to the season. So far, his best finish has been a tie for 13th a fortnight ago. He also missed the cut at the Sony Open and Phoneix Open.

The secret to Parnevik's sudden up-turn in form according to the man himself is a new "doughnut" putting device that he claims has helped his grip. "It's like a putter with a doughnut hole. It's amazing, the feel you get with it. It's hard to explain the feeling of it, but all of the other pros that have tried it on the putting green are amazed," he said. He is also still returning to full fitness after undergoing surgery on his hip last season.

Meanwhile, Ireland's Richie Coughlan is six shots off the lead at one-under par following his opening round of 71.
