Snooker: O'Brien edges victory in Malta

Fergal O'Brien secured his place in the semi-finals of the Rothmans Malta Grand Prix when he beat England's Stephen Lee 5-4 last night. O'Brien potted just one ball in the opening frame against the world number five as his Wiltshire stable-mate replied with a break of 112.

But the former British Open champion chipped away to lead 3-2. Lee made runs of 54 and 32 to go 4-3 up but O'Brien would not be denied. O'Brien knocked in green to pink to force a decider and then made his second half-century of the match to take the contest. O'Brien cues up against Mark Williams for a place in Sunday's final tonight at 7pm.
