Racing: Murtagh earns Euro call

Johnny Murtagh's memorable 2000 season has earned him selection for Europe's team in an international jockeys' challenge in California next month. The Irishman, who won 12 Group or Grade One races last year, will join regulars Frankie Dettori, Kieren Fallon and Olivier Peslier in the British Airways-sponsored contest at Santa Anita Park on March 11.

Steve Cauthen will again captain the side, which has beaten the Americans just once in three previous stagings of the event. Bill Shoemaker's USA team, chosen by fans voting on-track and on-line, will be Laffit Pincay Jr., Kent Desormeaux, Corey Nakatani and Victor Espinoza.
