Buyers must cough up for Koller

Sunderland's hopes of snapping up Czech striker Jan Koller have been rocked by the news that Anderlecht have slapped a £16 million price tag on their giant star. The Black Cats were this week linked with a £9 million move for Koller after Stadium of Light boss Peter Reid admitted his interest in the player.

However, Anderlecht manager Michel Verschueren is adamant any potential buyer will have to almost double that valuation. "I wasn't aware of Sunderland's interest and no official bid has been received. As for Koller's worth, the amount being circulated is a long way short," Verschueren told onefootball.com.

Koller himself insists that he is in no rush to leave his present club, having just been named Belgium's Player of the Year for 2000. "I have extended my contract at Anderlecht because I feel good here," he said. "Champions of Belgium and in the Champions League - that's not too bad. My dream is to play in the Premiership, it seems right. Getting more money and playing for a club not as strong as Anderlecht is out of the question."
