West makes contact with Derby

Derby County's Nigerian defender Taribo West has returned to Derby after going missing for the past week. West failed to show up following a trip home for a World Cup qualifier against Sudan last weekend, but it turns out that he stayed at home because of a family illness. Smith confirmed this morning that West called him last night to explain the situation.

He showed up at training this morning for further talks with Smith who will decide later today whether or not to include West in the team to face Sunderland at Pride Park tomorrow afternoon. However, Smith may have little choice in the matter as French defender Youl Mawene is ruled out for at least six weeks with a knee injury.
