GAA: Galway issue to be resolved

Galway's senior hurlers could yet find themselves playing in next summer's Munster Championship, despite refusing invitations from both the Munster and Leinster boards at last week's meeting of the Hurling Development Committee (HDC). It is believed the Connacht side haven't completely ruled out the possibility of joining the Munster Championship at the second stage of its competition, where they would meet the losers of the first round.

With the HDC anxious to give every team at least two championship games a season, they are keen to resolve Galway's current situation, which sees them without a competitive game in Connacht following Roscommon's recent withdrawal. The HDC must come up with an acceptable way forward for The Tribesmen, as they meet with the Games Administration Committee tomorrow night, where a final draft of their suggested revamp is expected.

Other options to be discussed tonight include Galway playing their opening fixture on a home-and-away basis, with the winner to be decided by the aggregate score over the two legs. While this solution would be unprecedented in GAA circles, it is one that may satisfy the stubborn Galway board, who as yet, have failed to embrace any of the HDC's proposals with open arms.
