Boxing: Ingle on the road to recovery

Doctors treating boxer Paul Ingle have said he is making excellent progress as he recovers from life threatening injuries he sustained in the ring just before Christmas. According to a statement made by a spokesperson for the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, the 28-year-old boxer sat up in bed today.

"Paul is still ill but can now be described as stable following the injury he suffered. In the last day or so he has been able to speak, is sitting up and is responding appropriately to commands, which are good signs. He is also now supporting his own breathing. Paul remains in intensive care and we still can't say how long it will be before he is able to be moved closer to his home," he added.

Ingle suffered a blood clot on his brain during an IBF featherweight title fight against South African Mbulelo Botile at the Sheffield Arena on December 16, and underwent emergency brain surgery that night. He has been in the hosptial's intensive care unit since then.
