Formula 1: Fisichella to miss pre-season

Benetton driver Giancarlo Fisichella will learn in the next two weeks if he will miss pre-season testing with a knee injury. The Italian is undergoing physiotherapy on his right knee in Rome but, according to team officials, could need surgery to cure a kneecap problem.

The 27-year-old Fisichella will discover on December 11 whether surgery will be required and any operation would take place 12 days later. "There is a possibility he will need surgical intervention to cure it, and if it does need an operation it will happen on December 23, but the doctor will be the judge of that," a Benetton spokesperson said.

If Fisichella needs surgery he will miss testing throughout January but Benetton said he would be ready for the start of the season in March. (Reuters)
