Soccer: High praise for Northern Ireland star
Thursday, 17 August 2000 12:03Savo Milosevic has become the latest member of the David Healy fan club after watching the young hot-shot score his fourth Northern Ireland goal in four appearances against Yugoslavia. Healy opened his account at Windsor Park with a cool finish which he slotted between goalkeeper Zeljko Cicovic's legs just before half-time in the 2-1 friendly defeat.
Milosevic, who was joint top scorer at Euro 2000 with five goals, knows what it takes to be a top striker and he was impressed with the Manchester United reserve. The Yugoslav marksman feels Healy's all-round game is developing well and he reckons the 21-year-old can get even better. "He had one chance and he scored and it's always important for a forward to score goals," he said. "He kept the ball well in the game, especially in the first 45 minutes. I was impressed with him and of course he's only a young boy, which means he has time to improve himself and his game."
Milosevic wasn't the only person singing Healy's praises last night. Northern Ireland boss Sammy McIlroy also had some kind words for the 21-year-old striker: "He was a lone figure up there and it was a hard situation to be in, but he kept battling and got his reward with the goal. If you can score goals at international level you have done well and the kid's got four which is tremendous." (PA)
