Formula 1: Coulthard and Wurz have eventful test

David Coulthard had a lucky escape yesterday during testing in Valencia, when the new rear wing of his car, attached to provide more downforce, failed as he approached the first corner, but Alexander Wurz was not so lucky. Coulthard's car spun five times before crashing into the tyre barrier. Coulthard was able to get out of the car unaided, but will not be pleased, as the session was the final preparation for the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring, where high downforce is a must.

The final day's testing saw Giancarlo Fisichella go fastest, with Alexander Wurz recording the second fastest time before suffering a serious cut to his right leg. Wurz crashed headlong into the barrier, causing the suspension to break and pierce the drivers cockpit. Wurz received a gash to his leg, but managed to extract himself from the cockpit before collapsing.

Wurz was taken to hospital in Valencia where X-rays have shown his leg is not broken. There is now some doubt over his ability to compete in next weekend's Hungarian race.
