Galway 1-13 Leitrim 0-8
Galway clinched the Connacht title in Roscommon this afternoon, but their lack-lustre performance against a poor Leitrim side suggests that All Ireland glory may be beyond them this year. In a disappointing game, Galway never got out of first gear, but their superiority was never in question as Leitrim failed to reproduce their impressive semi-final display.
Galway got off to a dream start when they were awarded a penalty in controversial circumstances after 13 minutes and Derek Savage calmly tucked the kick away to put them firmly in the driving seat. Leitrim struggled with their kicking throughout the first half, and almost matched Sligo's no-scoring performance against The Tribesmen. Thankfully, Aidan Rooney saved their blushes when he registered their first score with a well taken point after 32 minutes.
Galway continued to punish Leitrim in the second half, notching scores with ease and eventually ran out emphatic victors, the 1-13 to 0-8 score flattering Leitrim. John O'Mahony's men had 33 chances in all, converting 14, while Leitrim's return of 8 points from 16 scoring chances says much about their dismal show. Galway will need to make significant improvements if they are to give Kildare or Dublin any cause for concern.
