Boxing: Lewis and Tyson fight in the pipeline

Britain's world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis is on course to fight Mike Tyson within the next year. Following Lewis' two-round demolition of Frans Botha on Saturday, the rival American television companies which look after both Lewis and former world champion Tyson are to sit down and talk soon.

Seth Abraham, boss of HBO, the company that handles Lewis, said, 'We want to back the fight because Lennox wants to prove he's the best. Tyson's manager Shelley Finkel has told me they want three more fights before it comes off. They are hoping for the spring of 2001. That can be a long time in boxing but Lennox wants that fight. Money would not be a problem, the problems would come through other things like organising rematches for whoever loses.'

The clash would break box office records for cash generated and Abraham added, 'It's the biggest money fight out there.' Lewis must first face the IBF's mandatory challenger David Tua in November, with the possibility of one more fight before he meets Tyson. (PA)
