Soccer: Aldridge admits misconduct charge

Tranmere manager John Aldridge has admitted giving Leicester's Theo Zagorakis 'a clip around the ear' during the Worthington Cup final. Aldridge was incensed when Zagorakis, who was on the substitutes' bench, applauded the referee for dismissing Tranmere defender Clint Hill after he fouled Emile Heskey. The FA today charged the Rovers boss of misconduct. Aldridge said, "I got carried away in the heat of the moment. I was really upset to see a fellow professional applauding a sending-off." Aldridge has been given 14 days to respond to the charge and request a personal hearing.

Aldridge follows Sunderland midfielder Alex Rae into the dock after another weekend of shame in the English game. Rae was charged with misconduct yesterday after elbowing Derby captain Darryl Powell during the 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
