Rugby: Ulster lose heavily in European Cup

Ulster have been well beaten by Wasps in their European Cup Pool 3 encounter. The final score was 49-17 but could have been more in favour of the English side who only pulled away in the second half. Kenny Logan opened the scoring with a try, one of seven to Wasps while Ulster managed two. Ulster were already without hope of progressing in the competition. Wasps coach Nigel Melville is demanding his side do not let their guard slip following the victory at Loftus Road. Wasps ruthlessly brushed aside the reigning champions to maintain their 100% winning record. Victory at Llanelli's Stradey Park next week will secure them top spot in Pool 3 and all important quarter-final home advantage.

Munster are through to the quarter finals of the Cup after a thrilling 31-30 win over Saracens in Pool 4 at Thomond Park yesterday. In a terrific conclusion to an absorbing game which swung both ways, Keith Wood went in for a try and then Ronan O'Gara kept his nerve to land a difficult conversion off the right post. Mick Galwey and Jason Holland also scored tries on a great day for the men of Munster. Galwey agreed the victory was almost a carbon copy of the one over the same opposition at Vicarage Road before Christmas.
