Bolt officially world's fastest man

The International Association of Athletics Federations have ratified the world 100metres record of 9.72 seconds which Usain Bolt set in New York on 31 May.

Bolt's time at the Reebok Grand Prix, where he beat reigning world champion Tyson Gay, was two hundredths of a second faster than Asafa Powell's time last September in Rieti.

Bolt is scheduled to clash with fellow Jamaican Powell, and American Gay over the distance when the Olympic track and field programme begins on August 15.

The 21-year-old sprinter will attempt to win a 100m and 200m double, and has also been selected for his country's 4x100m relay team.
