CASTING FOR RTÉ YOUNG PEOPLE’S PROGRAMMES
Over the course of the year, RTÉ Young Peoples and a number of independent production companies host casting sessions for new TV contributors/presenters. These are for TRTÉ and RTÉjr shows.

RTÉjr is designed to entertain young children. The schedule has been devised to combine a varied selection of established programming and Irish home produced programmes. The combination of these provide rounded and well balanced viewing options for your little ones to enjoy.
From early on children engage with strong, vibrant images and music. As they develop their world grows, so their curiosity needs to engaged and stimulated. As young children are learning all the time RTÉjr combines education with entertainment, to hold the attention and introduce new ideas and experiences.
RTÉjr is a safe place for your young child to watch and learn about the world. It strives to provide child centric entertainment by combining best of education and child developmental practisewithin all its programming.
Irish Produced RTÉjr Programming
With a strong Irish identity the home produced programmes are inclusive of all children on the island of Ireland. Programmes encourage and attitude of exploration and discovery but with traditional and comforting elements of established storytelling and familiar personal and specific cultural experiences. TELL ME A STORY is where little ones can enjoy specially commissioned stories by emerging Irish writers being read by top RTÉ broadcasters including Ryan Tubridy, Marty Whelan, Blathnaid ni Chofaigh, Grainne Seoige, Brendan O’Connor, Bryan Dobson, Miriam O’Callaghan, Diana Bunici, George Hamilton, Marty Morrissey, Sean Rocks, Mary Kennedy, Geri Maye, Rick O’Shea, Joe Duffy, Sinead Kennedy, Paul Herriott and Keelin Shanley.
MOVE IT is where viewers can learn lots of dance style from Salsa to Street Dance, Disco and, Bubble Pop with Emma O’Driscoll and her young crew of dancers.
THE CLUE CREW is a quest-based game show for youngsters. Presented by Emma O’Driscoll where the Clue Crew must collect a series of clues that reveal facts about the location they are in.
FOREST FORCE is where a team of young adventurers as they learn new forest skills from from compass-reading to bug hunting, animal-tracking and trail setting.
THE CURIOUS WORLD OF PROFESSOR FUN AND DR DULL is full of art and colour. Join Professor Fun as she helps Artist Laura to make mega awesome art. Watch out for Dr. Dull who is never happy about any of this.
HUBBLE takes young viewers on journeys of discovery and play. On board the wonderful bubble machine Emma and Ógie explore everything a small child needs and wants to engage with.
STORYTIME is where little ones can settle down with rtéjr in a cosy corner of the library to enjoy a wonderful array fairytales, both old favourites and brand new adventures.
THE WHY GUY is where all young viewers questions are answered! Join Albie who spends his time experimenting with inventions in his garage and has loads of experts to call on when he needs help.
SPRAOI is set in the tree of knowledge, Oli the wise owl and a host of woodland friends appear out of the hollow to teach youngsters all about letters, shapes, numbers and colours.
NEVERBORED is where children who find themselves in a dull place like stuck on bus or in an airport are “rescued” by Rueben who challenges them to use their imagination to create imaginative ways to entertain themselves.
THE SECRET LIFE OF FAMILY PETS sees children become “naturalists” as they investigate fascinating facts about their own pets.
I’M A CREEPY CRAWLY is an animated series where insects invite children into their alien world to reveal fun, interesting and sometimes disgusting facts about where they live, what jobs they do and how they survive in dangerous places!
PUNKY is an original animated series which tells stories from the everyday life of Punky – a little girl, who has Down Syndrome. Punky is no different to other Irish children and she really enjoys life to the full. Punky is full of humour and fun – she lives in the moment and works to solve problems encountered by her friends and family.
GRUBZ UP! is set in an allotment where groups of young Irish children have fun showing how to make tasty and wholesome meals using fruit and vegetables they have grown themselves. ‘GRUBZ UP!’ actively shows and encourages children how to grow, prepare and eat healthy homemade food.
OUT THE BACK proves you don’t need lots of space, just a big imagination, to create an oasis of activity in your back garden! In this series, four Irish children show how much fun can be had designing obstacle courses, mazes and even an Olympics headquarters, without even having to leave their own home! It encourages children to have fun, without having to spend money.
