This issue first came to the attention of Worlds Apart through a video posted on You Tube, of evictions held in the area of El Estor in Guatemala. The video was posted in an effort to raise awareness and promote global support for the Quechi people who claim they are being ousted by nickel mining company CGN.
Rodney travelled there in August and made his way to El Estor, where he met with many of those affected. While there he attended many meetings with Padre Daniel Voigt of the Defensoria Quechi, an NGO which has been of tremendous support to the Quechi people.
On the other side, CGN, a member of Skye Resources, have their own reasons for carrying out the evictions. To some extent they argue the situation is now out of their hands in and in those of the Guatemalan government. The situation is very complex and in this programme Rodney tries to delve deep into the various intricacies that surround the issue.

CGN insist they are doing everything they can to ensure that they are conducting their business in an ethical manner. You can read their response to the situation here. www.skyeresources.com/community/in_the_news
Social scientist and Director of AVANCSO Clara Arenas also features in the programme, as does journalist Magali Rosa.
