Eamon Gilmore
With the Government meeting this week to discuss how 3 billion will be slashed in December’s budget, the question on many peoples’ lips is where will the axe fall? Will there be a property tax, though Brian Lenihan has signalled that it is not in his plans? Or big cuts in public service spending? There are reports of a general cut of 5% in all current spending though this hasn’t been confirmed buy the Government.
With credit agency Moody’s downgrading Ireland’s Government bond ratings to Aa2, the Government is struggling to keep the country’s head above water and opposition parties have been quick to pounce, none more so than the Labour Party who have seen their popularity in the polls rise inexorably.
However, some would say that capitalising on the current climate of anger should not be all that difficult. The Labour Party has also been criticised for cashing in on this anger whilst at the same time offering no specific solution to the predicament we are in.

Secret Affairs – Britain’s Collusion with Radical Islam
Author: Mark Curtis
Published by: Serpent’s Tail
Just last week, NATO in Afghanistan announced that it had suffered its highest losses in the nine year old war, with over one hundred international troops killed in the month of June. Many commentators say the Taliban are stronger than ever and that this is a war that the US and its allies cannot win.
Yet despite all the media reports, few dig deep to analyse the roots of this struggle against radical Islam. In a new book, entitled Secret Affairs, Britain Collusion with Radical Islam, author Mark Curtis reminds us of Britain’s covert involvement with these same forces over thirty years ago. He also maintains that Britain’s ongoing collusion with radical Islam is motivated by self interest and that far from protecting the country against terrorism, its actions are increasing the terrorist threat to Britain and the world. And Mark Curtis joined Myles this morning.
