Brexit No Deal

Brexit No Deal

After a day of twists and turns in Brussels, not only are we left wondering what happens next in the Brexit negotiations, we’re also left wondering: what just happened?

Was a deal agreed? Was the DUP leadership consulted? Who reneged on whom? While a deal may still be close, can it be nailed down before the big summit next week?

Nelson McCausland, Former DUP MLA for North Belfast, Stephen Gethins, the Scottish National Party’s Foreign Affairs and Europe Spokesperson, Mairead McGuinness, Vice President of the European Parliament and Fine Gael MEP for Midlands North West, and Matthew Parris, former Conservative MP and now columnist with The Times and The Spectator discussed all of this with Seán O'Rourke this morning.

Children in Hotels for Christmas

Children in Hotels for Christmas

Over the next week or two our reporter Brian O’Connell will have a series of reports spending time with children and adults who are not in their own home for Christmas.

Today Brian began with a family he got to know and spend time with who are living in emergency accommodation.

Rohingya Refugees

Rohingya Refugees

Since August of this year, more than six hundred thousand Rohingya refugees have fled violence in Myanmar, crossing the border into Bangladesh.

We’ve heard on this programme and others about how the crisis developed, how it has worsened, we’ve spoken to Bob Geldof about it and we’ve heard about the political ramifications.

But of course, ahead of all of this, is the terrible human cost on hundreds of thousands of people, and many of them children.

Dr Ian Cross is a doctor with Medicine Sans Frontiers, Doctors Without Borders, who has been working in a health clinic on the Myanmar/Bangladesh border, treating Rohingya refugees and he joined Seán O'Rourke in studio this morning.

Wexford Crash

David Looby is a reporter with the New Ross Standard, and he spoke to Seán O'ROurke thismorning with the latest on that devastating road crash that claimed the lives of four members of the same family yesterday evening in Co Wexford.

Affordable Housing

Affordable Housing

As discussions around the housing situation in Ireland continue to dominate the headlines, another proposal to tackle the problem was unveiled on Friday by the Solidarity party.

They say they have engaged an architect to draw up plans for over 1,000 homes and that they were basing their costings on previous calculations by the Ó’Cualann housing co-op project in Ballymun in Dublin.

So what is the O’Cualann model and how does it work? Evelyn O’Rourke has met up with the team there and she joines Seán O'Rourke in studio this morning to discuss it.

Craft & Design Fair

Gifted, Ireland’s biggest craft and design fair opens today at the RDS in Dublin, and it features hundreds of creators, designers and food producers, each showcasing their locally-made wares under the one roof.

Changing Funeral Culture

Changing Funeral Culture

You may not wish to stop for death, but as poet Emily Dickinson once put it, it will kindly stop for you. It’s a reality we all face and the options around funerals, burials and cremations can be confusing. Cremations in particular have seen a marked increase in Ireland over the last number of years.

Paddy O’Gorman went to Mount Jerome cemetery in Dublin. He asked people at the Columbarium Wall what they would prefer to happen to their remains – burial or cremation?

George McCullough,Chief Executive of Glasnevin Trust and Jonathan Stafford, Managing Director of Staffords Funeral Homes also joined Seán O'Rourke in studio this morning.
