Childcare Costs

Childcare Costs

The skyrocketing cost of childcare is a constant concern for many families across the country.

Last year on budget day, in an effort to ease the financial burden, Minister for Children Catherine Zappone announced a new scheme which would provide support for parents towards the cost of childcare and would be payable for children from six months of age.

It finally came into effect last month, however not without teething problems, coming under strong criticism from childcare providers.

So how is it faring and what relief can parents hope for in next week’s budget announcement?

Gillian Murphy, Owner of Nourrice Creche and Montessori School in Wexford, Regina Bushell, founder and Chair of Seas Suas, a new organization representing independent early education centre operators launching today and Catherine Noone, Fine Gael Senator and member of the Committee on Children and Youth Affairs came into studio to discuss this.
