In an effort to address this and the many other problems plaguing our health service, The Emergency Department TaskForce will meet later today.

Aras Attracta

Aras Attracta

The independent review of the HSE's Aras Attracta care home for people with intellectual disabilities in County Mayo has said there was widespread control of its mostly elderly residents which was generally imposed for the ease of managing the service and the convenience of management and staff.
It has recommended that residents who are ready now to move to non-institutional settings must be supported to do so without delay. This morning we spoke to Kevin McCoy, Chairman of the Review Group.

University Rankings

University Rankings

All of Ireland’s universities, bar just one, NUI Galway, have slipped again down the international rankings, it is the latest news in what have been substantial drops in these rankings since 2009, and at this point, only four universities remain in the top 300...Trinity College has barely held on to its top 100 position and UCD is down to 176th place.

So in an unprecedented joint statement today, the Provost of Trinity College, Patrick Prendergast, and the President of UCD, Andrew Deeks , have together said the third level system is broken and needs urgently fixed and called for the Government to implement the Cassells Report on funding.

Joining Sean in studio this morning was John Boland, Dean of Research at Trinity College Dublin, Eoin O’Malley, senior lecturer in Dublin City University and on the line Peter Cassells, who chaired the expert group on third level funding.

Teachers in Dubai

Many young Irish teachers are leaving job uncertainty here behind and getting jobs in Dubai where they're getting generous rewards, pay no tax on their income and relax under blue skies.

Two of them, Graham Carroll from Drogheda and Aoife Ryan from Cashel have taken up positions in Deira, international school in Festival City in Dubai. They spoke to us this morning.
