The mid-morning current affairs magazine with the stories of the day, sharp analysis, sports coverage, in-depth features and consumer interest.

    Cabinet Reshuffle

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the new leader of the Labour Party Tanaiste, Joan Burton sat down this morning for discussions on political priorities for the coalition government.

It’s expected that the Taoiseach will announce a major shake-up of cabinet portfolios in the coming days, with Fine Gael and Labour Ministers being re-shuffled and others in line for new appointments.

Irish Times Political Correspondent Harry McGee and Katie Hannon of Prime Time spoke to Sean about the speculation and the rumours.

    Garth Brooks

He’s one of the biggest stars of country and western music in the world, but the bid to get Garth Brooks’ five concerts up and running in Croke Park is starting to feel more like a western stand-off, with residents on one side, promoters on the other and Dublin City Council in the middle.

Ken Sweeney is Showbiz Editor of The Irish Sun joined Sean with the latest.

    Political Spouses

Our TDs and Senators split their time between business in the Dail during the week and business in their constituencies at the weekends.

For those who are based outside Dublin, it means many days and nights spent away from families, with the bulk of the household and child rearing duties falling to their husband, wife or partner.

So what’s it like to be a political spouse?

Sean was joined in studio by two wives of Dail deputies – Deirdre Keaveney, wife of Fianna Fail TD, Colm Keaveney and Geraldine O’Mahony, wife of Fine Gael TD from County Mayo, John O’Mahony.

He spoke too to Paul Murray, who is married to Labour Senator Susan O’Keeffe.

    Alcoholic Parents

We know as a nation we drink too much. We imbibe at weddings, Holy Communions, weekends.  We drink to celebrate, to commiserate, to blot out despair, to fuel our successes.

But what effect does drinking have on our children? What if your mother or father is an alcoholic, what damage is that doing?

Sean spoke to Laura whose father is an alcoholic and also to Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr William Flannery.

    House Prices

Some parts of the country are seeing a resurgence in interest in the property market.  Sales are up and prices are rising.

Valerie Cox went to look at some homes on view over the weekend and she joined Sean to tell him about the prices that were being sought and the house hunters she met.

    Health Products Regulatory Authority

Have you ever wondered why you can buy paracetamol in the supermarket but have to pay a trip to the chemist to get your codeine-based painkiller?

Who decides what medicines we have access to as consumers and which ones are off-limits to us without a prescription?

From medicinal cannabis to nicotine patches, Pat O’Mahoney is the man in the know.  He is CEO of the organisation previously known as the Irish Medicines Board and he joined Sean in studio.

Iraq is a country in crisis. Kurdistan is threatening to break away, while the Sunni fundamentalist group ISIS has overrun much of the north of the county, and is within reach of Baghdad.

As ISIS prepares an assault on the city Iraqi Prime Minister, Al Maliki is turning to Iran and Russia for the planes, weapons and advice he needs to ward off the fundamentalists, and shore up his own political position.

RTE reporter, Fergal Keane spoke to Sean from an apprehensive Baghdad.

    Sports Round-Up

For a look back at a bumper weekend of World Cup semi-finals, the Wimbledon finals and Championship action on the GAA front, Sean was joined in studio by Donal O’Grady, former All-Ireland manager with the Cork hurlers; Ciaran Murphy of the Second Captains Championship programme on RTE Radio 1 and Roddy Collins, former Derry City manager.

    Derval O'Rourke

Three time Olympian and former World Indoor Champion, Derval O’Rourke announced her retirement from athletics only two weeks ago.

After 12 years of competing at the highest level in world and European Athletics, the Cork hurdler has qualified and competed at every major outdoor championship from 2002 to 2012.

She joined Sean in studio this morning.
