28 students have been suspended from a large secondary school after an inappropriate message about a member of the school community was posted online. The students involved clicked that they “liked” the Facebook page in question. The school is Colaiste Chiarain in Croom in Co Limerick and the School Principal Noel Malone was on the line.

In Australia a Melbourne man, Adrian Ernest Bayley has appeared in court accused of the rape and murder of Drogheda woman Jill Meagher.
At the pre-trial committal hearing 41-year-old Bayley entered a guilty plea on one count of rape, but pleaded not guilty to one count of murder.
In court today details emerged of what happened to Jill Meagher, who was an employee of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, after she left a bar in the city of Brunswick.

A Bord Iascaigh Mhara proposal to build an organic salmon farm in Galway Bay had led to huge protests from those who say it will destroy migrating salmon stock in the North Atlantic.
