    Mortgage Relief

On Friday we had a text we had from an anxious homeowner just after our interview with Finance Minister Michael Noonan (who was in to talk to us about the ECB deal) and it sums up the frustration of some burdened with home loan arrears “I am dealing with the Bank who are very difficult and loading (on) legal fees. Talking does not work. Will the Minister help me with the Bank and their heavy handedness”?

And the plight of those affected by mortgage debt was highlighted in stark terms by the Governor the Central Bank Patrick Honahan.

Pat was joined by Barrister Ross Maguire of New Beginning – which is lobbying government to ease the burden on borrowers.

    Horsemeat

The source of horsemeat that has made its way into the European food chain continues to confound food safety authorities across the continent.

The latest information seems to point to Romania as the source of the contaminated meat, with Holland and Cyprus also being implicated by the French consumer minister.

Pat was joined on the line from Paris by John Lichfield from the London Independent.

Office Politics – How to Thrive in a World of Lying, Backstabbing and Dirty Tricks

    by Oliver James (Ebury Publishing)

If you feel your colleagues are out to get you, it turns out you could be right. A study of office politics suggests that workplaces are a jungle of awkward personalities vying for domination.

Oliver James is a psychologist, bestselling author and broadcaster and has identified three types of dysfunctional personalities among white collar workers: psychopath, Machiavellian, and narcissist. These are the colleagues who have no compunction about trampling over others, or like nothing more than to plot and scheme, or who drone on endlessly about themselves. However there is hope as he joins me in studio today to talk to me about how you can not only overcome this difficult environment but thrive in it in Office Politics – How to Thrive in a World of Lying, Backstabbing and Dirty Tricks.

    The Abuse Family

Survivors of child sexual violence reported that nearly 80% of children abused were abused by someone known to them – immediate family members, relatives or family friends. So when there is abuse in the family how does it skew the family dynamic. The President of Sinn Fein, Gerry Adams spoke to Marian Finucane on Saturday about his abusive father and how the he learned about it and how the family reacted.

Joining Pat in studio was Dr. Mel Duffy, Lecturer in Sociology and Sexuality Studies DCU.

    Listen

    Horsemeat

As we heard earlier in the programme the horse meat scandal is spreading across Europe with the French authorities suggesting that a law banning horses from Romanian roads may be responsible for a surge in the sale of horse meat on the European market. Closer to home what impact are the non-stop revelations having on the beef industry here?

Joining Pat was Matt Demspey, editor of the Irish Farmers Journal.
