The estimates vary – anything between 10,000 and 20,000 people took part in a march against austerity in Dublin City Centre on Saturday. Campaigners, unions and far left groups joined in the protest – some of them voicing frustration at the trade union movement because of its support for the Labour party. At one point hecklers had a go at Eugene McGlone , the President of the Irish Congress of Trades Unions. Sinn Fein and the United Left Alliance were accused – though some of those attending the rally said it was spontaneous.

There are many challenges facing patients and families living with serious illness. In order to address some of their concerns, a guide to palliative care DVD is being launched today at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. It’s specifically designed to inform patients and their families about specialist care services provided in St. James Hospital and Our Lady’s Hospice.

However, the person who gives the chef’s dishes a setting – who seats you, feeds you and looks after you is often ignored, that person is the restaurateur.
Pat was joined in studio by Nicholas Lander himself a former restaurateur and columnist with the Financial Times who has just published a book called The Art of the Restaurateur and featuring in that book is a lesser known member of the Ballymaloe Allen family, Hazel Allen who runs the hotel and the restaurant in Co Cork.
