In this morning’s Irish Independent, coloumnist, John Downing identifies the sheer lack of a political stance on abortion as the problem that has beset the issue for generations. There can be no doubting that austerity is hurting many vulnerable people – and some are worried that worse may be ahead in the Budget, three weeks from now.
Some quotes from the Age Action Ireland pre-budget submission – “The state pension is not enough to maintain a house; light, heat, and keep it in good repair so as it is dry and habitable”. “I can’t afford to sit in my sitting room at night and watch TV; I go to bed with a hot water bottle”.
