Last year, the Constitutional Convention was set up to consider and make recommendations on certain topics as future amendments to the Constitution. It is made up of 26 members of the Oireachtas, 4 members of political parties from the North of Ireland and 66 randomly selected citizens of Ireland.
This weekend, the Constitutional Convention will look at the provision for same-sex marriage. To date, it has received over 1,000 submissions on the issue of marriage equality, far more than any of other seven topics to be discussed by the Constitutional Convention.
To discuss the Constitutional Convention on marriage equality, Pat was joined on the programme by Brian Finnegan, the editor of Gay Community News and Dr Gerry Fahey, an Occupational Psychologist who has done much research in this area.
