As a tribute to Ciarán Mac Mathúna who died in December 2009, we hear a series of biographical programmes My Job of Journeywork made by Harry Bradshaw in 1993 in which Ciaran traces his life’s work, the places he visited and the musicians and singers he recorded.

A visit to the Community Centre in Drumkeeran, Co. Leitrim for the launch of The Leitrim Cake, a set of recordings of fiddle player Joe Lacky Gallagher who was recorded by Séamus Ennis for Raidió Éireann in 1948.

1971 tracks from Fred Finn and Peter Horan of Co.Sligo, a song “The Creel” from Paul Brady and a chance to hear again in full a Long Note radio programme broadcast live from Gaoth Dobhair on 20th August 1974 presented by the late Micheál Ó Domhnaill with localmusiciands and singers including Clannad.
We hear a 1991 interview with flute and fiddle player James Murray of Co.Sligo, jigs from Ceoltóirí Chualann, songs from John Hannon, Tim Lyons and Colum Sands and an old 78rpm disc of fiddle player Paddy Sweeney recorded in New York in the 1930s.

The second half of a concert with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, leader Mia Cooper, conductor David Brophy and the celebrated traditional group Altan with arrangements by Fiachra Trench recorded at the National Concert Hall, Dublin on 14th August 2009.

About the Show
We will have regular reviews of newly released CDs and new publications, we’ll be talking to musicians and singers about their music and song, where they learned and how they like to sing and play. We will also visit the RTÉ Sound Archive for rare recordings from the past and also pick up on older commercial recordings which are not widely available. Feature items and discussion of current issues will form part of the programme brief and there will certainly be plenty of good music.
