The Music Of Words

The Music of Words is a series of six programmes in which Des Geraghty explores two of his favourite art forms - poetry and traditional music -  and looks at how the practice of these art forms is influenced by the home place of the artist and how the concepts of place and location are important.

Each week he will visit a poet and a traditional player in their own area and spend some time in their company - talking and hearing them play and read.

The series is a radio journey starting with the first programme in Dublin on June 9th with poet Paula Meehan and fiddle player Liam O'Connor and continuing to Galway, Cavan-Monagan, Tipperary, The Kerry-Limerick border and finishing in Bray in North Wicklow.

Writer, broadcaster and trade unionist, Des Geraghty, is currently Chairman of Poetry Ireland. He has a keen interest in traditional music and the local history.
