The Late Session

Each week on The Late Session, there are interviews with many of today's players and singers, listings of upcoming events and news in the world of traditional music and recordings made specially for the programme at some of the important festivals and gatherings which take place during the year such as Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy.

All areas of the music are catered for; from old archive recordings of the past to modern commercial releases of traditional music and song of which well over one hundred are issued every year.

About the Show

Presenter Áine Hensey, after spending 15 years in Clare, now lives in Co. Wexford and has been presenting traditional music programmes on radio for over 20 years and has a lifetime's experience and knowledge of traditional music to call upon.

The producer, Peter Browne is a well known uilleann piper and broadcaster and together they provide a programme each week which is entertaining and informative and a place in the radio schedule where the best in Irish traditional music and song is always available.

The Late Session was recently voted 'Best Traditional Music Radio Programme' by readers of Irish Music magazine. The award was presented at a gala concert in The National Concert Hall in October.

There was a repeat of a very successful series of concerts broadcast last year on the Late Session on Wednesdays at 10pm during the summer, starting on Wednesday July 7th.
