Earlier this year John put a callout for a “struggling but spirited sports squad” to follow this season.

Following careful deliberation Carlow’s Tinryland Senior footballers and Offaly’s Crinkill intermediate hurlers were selected from aspirant teams. (pictured below)

The show will be providing both club with coaching, drumming up local support and airing updates on crunch games through the Championship.

Crinkle corner back John Ryan put a passionate plea to the Murray team. “The main thing we hope to get from the show is enthusing local people to pick up a hurl,” said Ryan. “We’ve been struggling to make up the numbers and got caught in a hard-fought relegation battle with Shinrone last year. This season we’re pulling up our socks and we’re determined to excel”.

Tinryland’s former back and ex-Chairman Michael Murphy also made a heartfelt case to the Murray team. “It’s been 30 years since our last Championship win in 1981,” said Murphy. “We’ve seen hard times at the club. We lost key players to immigration and the division of the parish. Now we’re rebuilding. Last year we made it to the quarter finals. This season we’re determined to go further.”

Tinryland have thus far played four matches in the League, winning two and losing two.
