Peter McCarthy and his wife Mary run the Signal Box pub in Ballybrophy, Co. Laois. It is the only licensed premises directly on the main Dublin to Cork train line. Peter, who is retiring in May, is only the second owner in 100 years. In conversation with Dave McHugh he recalls some of the characters who came in and out of the pub over the years
