The Championship 2007 - The Complete Record

In Brian Carthy's comprehensive all-colour book, the 13th in the
series, the RTÉ Gaelic Games correspondent and commentator
takes an in-depth look back at the 2007 Football and Hurling
Championships, covering every match in all its relevant
statistical detail.

The year will be remembered for the achievement of Kerry's footballers in winning their 35th senior title and the fact the All-Ireland final, in which Pat O'Shea's side comfortably beat Cork 3-13 to 1-9, was the first-ever between the two counties. Kieran Donaghy scored two goals in that game and the outstanding Colm Cooper contributed 1-5 as Kerry became the first county since Cork in 1990 to retain the All-Ireland crown.

The 56 games, including four replays, that made up the 2007 Football Championship produced many epics but few as emotional as Sligo's one-point win over Galway in the Connacht Final. It was Sligo's first provincial title in 32 years, and their supporters celebrated in style on that July Sunday in Dr Hyde Park.

Kilkenny retained their All-Ireland hurling title with a devastating display of power, pace and skill, particularly in the early exchanges, when Limerick suffered badly in the cauldron that is Croke Park on Final Sunday.

Eddie Brennan and Henry Shefflin scored a goal each as Kilkenny established a nine-point lead, 2-3 to 0-0, by the 10th minute and eventually won by 2-19 to 1-15 to claim their 30th title and draw level with Cork at the top of the All-Ireland Roll of Honour.
