    The John Murray Show and Saturday Night Show are jointly running a music competition - click here for full detailis.  Emerging musicians are invited to send in their music to the John Murray Show by email.The John Murray Show decides on a shortlist of the 20 best acts.A panel of experts will reduce the field from 20 to six.

    These six are all played (pre-recorded) on the John Murray Show in a semi-final on Friday, May 16, where the top three are decided by a panel on that show.

    The final three then play live in Studio 8 in the John Murray Show final on Thursday, May 29.The overall winner plays again on the Saturday Night Show on Saturday, May 31. Please ensure the soloist and/or band members are available for these key dates.

    The Irish Mammy - Colm O'Regan

    The Irish mammy - a font of all wisdom and her special brand of love is a force to be reckoned with. Joining John in studio this morning is comedian Colm O' Regan has been in the field observing this unique species - the Irish mammy.

    Australian Sports Stars

    No fewer than 15 of the Australian rugby squad who gave us a hiding at the weekend have been disciplined for going on a midweek drinking binge before the match. It is the first time Australian sports stars have run into booze-fueled trouble. Damian McIver is Sports Reporter at ABC Hobart joins John on the line this morning.

    Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards - Philip Meyer

    Philip Meyer's first book American Rust told a modern story, of rust belt America, towns desolated by the collapse of the steel industry. This time, he's in Texas, in an epic novel that spans generations of the one powerful family, land & oil. Philip joins John this morning. Philip's book 'The Son' is one of the six books selected in the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards, in the John Murray Show category.

    AIG - All Blacks Comp

    Earlier in the programme we asked listeners to take part in our competition this morning, by singing a chorus of Ireland's Call. We will be giving away 200 euro each day Friday & then the four winners will compete to win a 'All Black experience' for two people from AIG Insurance. John is joined by three listeners with their rendition.
