    The John Murray Show and Saturday Night Show are jointly running a music competition - click here for full details.  Emerging musicians are invited to send in their music to the John Murray Show by email.The John Murray Show decides on a shortlist of the 20 best acts.A panel of experts will reduce the field from 20 to six.

    These six are all played (pre-recorded) on the John Murray Show in a semi-final on Friday, May 16, where the top three are decided by a panel on that show.

    The final three then play live in Studio 8 in the John Murray Show final on Thursday, May 29.The overall winner plays again on the Saturday Night Show on Saturday, May 31. Please ensure the soloist and/or band members are available for these key dates.

    Death of Lou Reed

    Last night we heard the sad news about the death of the cult musician, Lou Reed. Joining Miriam on the line is chef & restaurant owner, Kevin Thornton, who tweeted a photo of himself & his wife, going to a Lou Reed gig in Dublin 35 years ago!

    Recently we spoke to BBC Journalist, Martin Sixsmith, recuited by the family of Irish woman, Philomena Lee, to find her long lost son, brought to life in a new film where Philomena is played by Judi Dench & Martin by actor Steve Coogan, who is here to do our MyPod series with Miriam this morning.


    Daniel Goleman, author

    Miriam's next guest is author Daniel Goleman, a psychologist who first introduced us to the idea of Emotional Intelligence. Daniel's new book: 'Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence' in which Daniel mentions several incidents where he has observed people totally focused on what they are doing in their work, from store detectives to social media experts.


    Blessing for Marathon Runners

    As 14,000 brave people are running in the Dublin marathon this morning, on mile 18 in Milltown they can expect a very special cheer coming from Fr. Philip Bradley, PP of Milltown & he joins Miriam on the line now.


    Tattoo at 80 years of age

    Miriam's next guest is Nora McLoughlin from Donnycarney in North Dublin, who for her upcoming 80th birthday, decided to do something a bit different, a tattoo of a sweet pea on her arm!


    Author Elizabeth Gilbert

    Elizabeth Gilbert did what thousands of aspiring writers wanted to do, travelled, wrote a book that sold millions, found happiness at home & made time to research & write an intriguing new novel that is garnering rave reviews, titled 'The Signature of All Things ' &  Elizabeth Gilbert joins Miriam this morning.


    Music & Chat with The Sweeneys Men

    They were one of the great trad bands of the 60's, their influence can be heard on groups from Planxty, the Bothy Band & de Danan & they're back. Joining Miriam in studio are Andy Irvine, Terry Woods & Johnny Moynihan, together known as The Sweeney's Men.
