Mornings with Dave Fanning Search for Ireland’s Most Musical Family

Brothers, sisters, cousins, in-laws, step fathers, grannies – the show is looking for families that play together to enter the competition. Non family members are permitted – as long as family is at the heart of it – as with The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem and The Fureys and Davey Arthur.

Send us a 4’00 maximum clip performing the song or music of your choice – it does not need to be an original piece of music.

Upload it to Youtube and email us the link to davefanning@rte.ie.

You also need to send us a 100 word supporting paragraph telling us your story and why you should be chosen.

The closing date for entries is 5pm on Wednesday  26th August.

Our final will be held the first week in September and finalists need to be available then to perform before our judges.

    The judges’ decision is final.

The prize courtesy of Waltons music is a Kurzweil CUP-2 Upright Digital Piano. For more information visit  www.waltons.ie

Pat Shortt on Kilkenny's Loss in the Hurling Championship

Kilkenny fans are waking up this morning to the harsh reality that their team is out of this year's hurling championship. For Pat Shortt the occasion has provided an opportunity for a bit of mischief..

Pat who is from Upperchurch, Co Tipperary. was watching the match over in London where he is currently appearing in the Cripple of Inishmaan. His kids were at the match.

He was so delighted with Kilkenny being beaten by Cork yesterday that he tweeted a picture of himself laughing as Kilkenny manager Brian Cody was interviewed on television behind him. Brian Cody is looking quite glum.. and Pat is throwing his head back and laughing his head off.

He wrote: Top is sad Kilkenny man. Below is happy Tipperary man.

It was supposed to be just a tweet to his friends, to have a laugh. But then the Independent picked it up and put it up on their website.

    Paddy Campbell

Irish sculptor Paddy Campbell has been selected by the Province of Florence to run a unique exhibition as a centrepiece in the renowned Palazzo Medici Riccardi museum in Florence. That is the same Paddy Campbell who was commissioned to do a portrait of President McAleese and a memorial to people lost at sea off Bantry Bay and he is also the man who owns Bewleys.

    Bach's Cafe Cantata

Kate Kavanagh, a listener from Dublin, was listening to the previous piece with Paddy Campbell and sent in a request that we play this music from Bach to end the interview. Bach composed this mini comic opera while sitting in Cafe Zimmerman in Leipzig and she felt it would be a very apt way to celebrate coffee in tribute to Paddy Campbell and Bewleys.
