    The John Murray Show and Saturday Night Show are jointly running a music competition - click here for full details.  Emerging musicians are invited to send in their music to the John Murray Show by email.The John Murray Show decides on a shortlist of the 20 best acts.A panel of experts will reduce the field from 20 to six.

    These six are all played (pre-recorded) on the John Murray Show in a semi-final on Friday, May 16, where the top three are decided by a panel on that show.

    The final three then play live in Studio 8 in the John Murray Show final on Thursday, May 29.The overall winner plays again on the Saturday Night Show on Saturday, May 31. Please ensure the soloist and/or band members are available for these key dates.

    Sopranos Summer Tour with John Murray Show

    Four of our brave listeners have been mentored by the Sopranos to give them the confidence to step on stage & perform with them & the RTE Symphony Orchestra in front of a live audience. Padraig Connaughton took to the stage in Galway & Miriam speaks to Kathryn Thomas who presented the show from our Galway studio.

    Niamh Boyce's book 'The Herbalist'

    They've become known as 'Sliding Doors' moments: seemingly innocuous encounters that have fate-altering consequences in our lives. For Niamh Boyce - a librarian from Athy - a tiny article she noticed in an old newspaper 23 years ago lodged in her memory and simply refused go away! It led to Niamh writing a fictional novel – The Herbalist – inspired by the original story.

    The Herbalist is published by the Penguin Group & is out today.

    Wexford hurler Diarmuid Lyng

    In 2007 Diarmuid Lyng was one of the most respected & feared players on the field, but following physical & mental burnout, the country's top scorer, decided to embark on a journey of spiritual self discovery which
    took up , from New York to Tibet, Moscow to Vietnam. He is back teaching in Wexford Gaelsocoil & he joins Miriam in studio this morning.
