    The John Murray Show

A lively mix of topical stories, human interest and lifestyle features with John Murray

    Reflections on Margaret Thatcher

Hearing the news yesterday about the death of Margaret Thatcher, one of the first images coming to mind was the extraordinary portrayal on the tv sattire programme, Spitting Image. Joining John from a studio in London is the man behind that programme, John Lloyd.  Also in studio is historian Diarmaid Ferriter.

Social Class in UK & Ireland

Margaret Thatcher was the daughter of a shopkeeper, who rose to power with her unshakeable self-belief, her political message you can believe anything you want in life, but you have to work for it. In studio with John is historian Diarmaid Ferriter to talk about the class system.

    Gay Introduction Agency

Finding a partner is not easy & more often we look on-line, true for both straight & gay people, but Denise & Paul Sheridan decided to go back to the more old fashioned wasy of finding love, setting up an introduction agency for gay people. We are also joined by PJ Murphy, who signed up for this agency called Elegant Duo.

If you require a CD copy of this programme please e-mail or click here for RTÉ Archives sales form. Transfer fees and terms and conditions apply.

The next outing of our Walking Club is on Sunday 14th April. We’ll gather outside the community centre in Cullahill, Co. Laois, and head off on our walk at 12 midday. Cullahill is on the old Dublin-Cork Road [the R639] between Urlingford and Durrow, There’s about two-and-a-half hours’ walking involved, all in all, and there’ll be a break half-way through as usual. Walkers can expect to be back at the community centre for about 3.30-4pm. The first half of the walk is mostly uphill – we’ll be ascending around 140 meters - but that’s spread over an hour… so it shouldn’t be too challenging. Most of the walk is on quiet country roads, but a short part of the route takes us cross country through fields – so you’re advised to wear proper walking boots and to bring rain gear.
