Alan Davey is being taught to surf on Lahinch Beach in Co Clare by his friend Brian Miller. They found a ball of ambergris or Whale Vomit which is used by perfume companies to attach scent to the human skin and is potentially very valuable.
Comedy Cellar at the International Bar in Wicklow Street in Dublin was set up in 1988 by Ardal O'Hanlon, Kevin Gildea, Barry Murphy with Dermot Carmody and there has been a comedy show there every Wednesday since. It became the home of comedy in Ireland. The Cellar went on to discover some of the comedians who are now household names.
A new play called Payback is currently running in Bewley's in Dublin's Grafton Street. It's about the phenomenon reported by women that when they hit middle age they become invisible to society! John met the writers and actors, Maria McDermottRoe and Marion O’Dwyer, outside Bewleys to put their claims to the test.
